Day 1: Arrival
Welcome, pick up, and transfer from Lyon to your guest house in Pommiers in the southern Beaujolais.
Day 2: Pommiers - Chatillon d'Azergues
Your first day's walk is a gentle introduction to the Golden Stones region of the Beaujolais, as the path gently climbs through vines, pasture and forest to the historic ridge-top villages of Marcy, with its ancient telecommunications tower and then Charnay, with its narrow streets lined with charming historic properties. From here the walking trails descend to the beautiful fortified village of Châtillon d'Azergues with its historic chateau and chapel. Transfer from Chatillon back to your guest house.

Day 3: Theize and Oingt
Transfer to your second base in Moire. You first have the option of a small loop to visit the pretty village of Bagnols with its impressive chateau, historic dwellings and great views of the Mont Lyonnais. After passing the Chateau of Rapetour you'll reach the quaint medieval village of Theizé with it's 13th-century chateau de Rochebonne and its historic limestone houses centred around a pretty square. Then climb past dry stone walls and cabins to reach a panoramic ridge. You can decide how far you wish to go on the ridge before heading to the hilltop village of Oingt. Classed as one of the prettiest villages in France, Oingt has beautiful narrow alleyways you can explore as well as admiring the amazing views of the southern Beaujolais from its promenade. After some refreshment, you have a delightful descent to your guest house located on a vineyard in the pretty village of Moire.

Day 4: Jarnioux & old railway line
Transfer to Cogny. Explore this pretty limestone village with several beautiful manor houses. After passing the impressive Chateau du Sou you'll cross a vine-covered valley and at the last minute discover the wonderful village of Jarnioux, with its well-preserved 13th-century chateau. The village is also home to several historic buildings including an impressive wash house. You'll then follow a former railway line over viaducts and around pretty valleys to Ville-sur-Jarnoiux, another classic historic village in a pretty setting surrounded by hills. Continue along the old railway line and either go via the historic village of Theizé or head straight back to your guest house in Moire.

Day 5: Historic Villages
Transfer of about 40 minutes to your second base in Fuisse in southern Burgundy, a wonderful historic village and famous for its Pouilly-Fuisse wines. This circular trail goes via several pretty historic villages on the border between the Beaujolais and Burgundy including Chanes and St Verand with their impressive churches built from a warm limestone. You'll return via the village of Leynes its historic buildings built from a local outcrop of sandstone.

Day 6: Roche de Solutre
This walk explores the rocky outcrops which characterise this part of the southern Burgundy. Enjoyable walk through Chardonnay vines of the famous Pouilly Fuisse label to the villages of Pouilly and Solutre. Then climb to the summit of Roche de Solutre for spectacular 360-degree views. The site has rich wildlife and is also an important archaeological site which you can discover in its museum. You can choose to extend the trail via the adjacent summit of Vergisson.
Overnight: Fuisse, Walk: 13km or 22km, +320m or +650m
Day 7: Traverse of northern Beaujolais
Transfer and walk along the edge of the vines through beautiful countryside with great views. You'll pass Chateau de la Roche, the pretty villages of Jullie and Chasselas and enjoy panoramic views from Pruzilly.
Overnight: Fuisse, Walk: 16km, +330m
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast transfer from your guest house to Lyon after breakfast
