INSURANCE

It is essential that you are adequately insured to cover medical expenses, loss or damage of personal property, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment.

You should be aware that medical and emergency services may be financed and organised differently abroad than in your home country. European citizens travelling within the EEA are entitled to a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which simplifies the procedure when receiving medical assistance during their stay in a member state.

The EHIC entitles the holder to the same treatment at the same cost as a national of that country, and presentation of the EHIC guarantees reimbursement of the medical costs on the spot or soon after returning home. In the event of treatment being required, present the card at the earliest opportunity. The card is only valid for state-provided services, not for private hospital and treatments.

Some other services such as mountain rescue are not covered by the EHIC, and are not free. Therefore it is a prerequisite of all our activity holidays that each guest takes out a travel insurance policy for the entire duration of the holiday which is appropriate for the activity.

Citizens from countries outside the EU should ensure that their insurance coverage includes medical expenses.

VISA REQUIREMENTS AND IMMUNISATIONS

Non-EU citizens require a passport when traveling  inside the European union. You need to have a full passport valid for more than 6 months after the departure date. More information will be sent to you at the time of booking your holiday. Check with the relevant authorities for the visa requirements in the UK and the EU. More information concerning the requirements of each destination can be found in our FAQ.

MAKING SURE THE HOLIDAY IS RIGHT FOR YOU

Safety and Activity Holidays

Although we will, of course, take all reasonable precautions to avoid accidents, you should be aware that outdoor activities, such as hill walking and cycling do involve some degree of personal risk. Hill walking, in particular, carries with it a small risk of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should therefore be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement. You should not partake in any of the activities that we offer if you feel at all uncomfortable about the risk that they present.

Fitness and medical conditions

All of our walking holidays are designed for the average walker, ranging from those who enjoy a stroll on Sundays, to those that regularly undertake long or testing walks or treks in the mountains. They do not include the need for any technical abilities or extreme levels of fitness. Such activities in our holidays will be with a qualified guide. However, even moderate walks require some degree of physical fitness. Any walker who is clearly unable to keep up with the rest of the group to the point where it is to the detriment of our customer’s holidays, or whose lack of fitness could be detrimental to their own health whilst walking, could be asked not to participate in the walks. Other activities will be suggested in this case, but no refund can be made. For our walking holidays please refer to the section on walking grades, which details information on required fitness and experience.

You should inform us of any medical condition which may affect your safety or ability to take part in a walking holiday of this type. You may have medical conditions, which may not inhibit your activities in the hills, or indeed hamper your general level of aerobic fitness, but which require certain precautions. If you have any doubts please consult your doctor.

SAFETY ON OUR GUIDED WALKING HOLIDAYS

The safety of our customers is paramount. On guided walking holidays, each walker must conform to the safety advice given by the leader. High Point Holidays accepts no responsibility for an accident resulting from individual imprudence. High Point Holidays reserves the right to exclude at any moment, and without liability or any further contractual obligations, any customer whose actions or behaviour is likely to put in danger the safety of the group or the well-being of the other customers.

As the leader is responsible for the safety of all group members, he may adopt a cautious approach depending on local conditions. Do be aware that itineraries planned for some holidays and treks may be varied on the spot because of weather conditions, conditions underfoot and the ability of party members.

SECURITY OF PAYMENTS

We comply with the terms of the UK and European Package Travel Regulations. Under these regulations, your payments will be protected against our insolvency.
