From Paris to Bath
'After just 2.5 hours and the always impressive journey through the Channel Tunnel, I arrive in London. Then I board another train to Bath. I finally arrive at my destination and settle down for a quick dinner of mushroom pie with a typical English Worcestershire sauce and mashed potatoes. Then straight to bed! Tomorrow promises to be a long day…'

Emmanuelle's two-day adventure in Bath unfolded like a storybook, immersing her in a city celebrated for its stunning Georgian architecture, historic Roman baths, and serene ambiance. From the moment she stepped onto its cobblestone streets, Bath offered a blend of cultural richness and relaxation.
'Welcome to the second day of my business trip!
The day begins with a visit of the famous Roman Baths: an unmissable site that not only sheds light on the origins of the city but also allows one to (re)discover this ancient Roman period in Britain. We take a break in the new interpretation centre to deepen our heritage knowledge in an interactive way. The Jane Austen Centre then welcomes us for an immersive experience into the life of this famous author and, more broadly, into 19th-century England'

'I’m really eager to explore the countryside around Bath. The sun is out and enhances the vibrant autumn colours! I decide to walk along the Kennet & Avon canal, where numerous narrowboats are lined up between two locks. The atmosphere is very peaceful.
I arrive at Bathwick Meadows, overlooking Bath (the view is stunning)... just in time to enjoy a magnificent sunset! On my way back down, I might just be tempted by a beer in one of the friendly pubs in the Whitcomb neighbourhood—who knows?'
From Bath to Oxford
Leaving the captivating sights of Bath behind, Emmanuelle heads for the famous city of Oxford and its dreaming spires. Known for its prestigious university and timeless architecture, Oxford offers a blend of academic tradition, rich history and vibrant culture. Emmanuelle is ready to plunge into its history-filled streets and explore this unique city.
'I'm back on the station platform once again... After arriving at Oxford Station, I hurry over to the Bodleian Library. Imagine this: since 1610, a copy of every work published daily in England (books, maps, magazines...) has been sent to the Bodleian Library!
I stroll along the walls of Oxford’s prestigious university colleges, spot many students cycling around, and try to imagine what their lives might be like in such a beautiful, elite setting…'

From Oxford to South Cotswolds
As Emmanuelle continues her adventure along the Great West Way, she sets her sights on the picturesque southern Cotswolds, where charming villages and rolling hills await. Her journey takes her to Bradford-on-Avon, a delightful town known for its beautiful scenery and rich history
'Jules takes us on a day trip in his minibus through some charming little villages in the southern Cotswolds and along the Kennet & Avon canal. Narrow streets, churches surrounded by their ancient graveyards, a quirky encounter with a flock of geese blocking our path, shops decorated for Halloween... this little slice of the English countryside is beautiful! After a lunch that is both refined and hearty, we’re ready for a short cruise on the canal!'
From Cotswolds to Salisbury
As Emmanuelle embarks on her journey from the picturesque Cotswolds to the historic city of Salisbury, she is filled with anticipation for the sights and experiences that lie ahead. The scenic drive promises to be a delightful transition, leading her through charming villages and stunning landscapes.
'We spent our first night in Salisbury, waking up to the sight of the imposing Gothic cathedral that defines this quintessentially English countryside city. Liz guides us to the Chapter House, where we find the best-preserved of the four original manuscripts of the Magna Carta, written in 1215. We take a gourmet break at Mompesson House, where some enjoy a classic ‘cream tea’ with a scone filled with dried fruits, jam, and clotted cream or a ‘savoury tea’ with a cheese scone, a slice of cheddar, and a red onion compote.
Then it's time to hop on a bus to Stonehenge, one of the world’s most famous pre-historic sites, lying at the heart of an ancient and mystic landscape.'
From Stonhenge to London by Reading
After eight days in the authentic region of the Great West Way, Emmanuelle's journey reaches its final chapter. This week has been filled with rich experiences, from exploring charming towns to discovering the stunning landscapes that define this picturesque area.
“In Reading, a Blue Badge guide, meets us at the train station and leads us to the ruins of the city’s old medieval abbey.
We enjoy a final coffee by the Avon River under the sun, a fitting farewell to this river I’ve crossed paths with many times over the past week.
Our next stop is Windsor, a small town surrounding the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. This iconic site has been the family home of British kings and queens for nearly 1,000 years.
The last leg of this journey: London... by night! I had the opportunity to try out a new experience: a geolocated itinerary punctuated by points of interest, guiding me along the Thames to Tower Bridge, and then back through the City district to St. Paul’s Cathedral—10 kilometers in total. This walk through London’s lights is a beautiful way to end this journey along England’s Great West Way.'
