Discover Raiano, Abruzzo:

An Authentic Italian Village Through

Gabriella’s Story

Some places stay with you, no matter where life takes you.
For Gabriella, that place is Raiano — a small village in the heart of Abruzzo, where childhood memories, simple moments and deep-rooted connections have shaped her sense of home.

Through her story, she invites us to discover a quieter, more authentic side of Italy — one where time slows down, doors remain open, and nature is never far away.

"A small and charming village of more or less 2000 habitants,  Raiano is what I call home to this day, although I live elsewhere.

Nestled in the heart of Abruzzo, a central Italian region, also known as the "Italian Scotland", due to its sheeps, castles, and mountains. Surrounded by national parcs and picturesque villages, Raiano is a lovely stop to discover an authentic atmosphere and enjoy the slow pace of life. I lived in the historic centre, where I used to play since I was little and explore the small roads on my bike, especially during the siesta time in summer. My neighbours would have the doors always open, and I would go to visit them often. Fiore and Margherita were my favourite neighbours, always so kind and offering a juice or a plate of pasta when possible. I will always carry this memory as one of my most beloved ones.

Also, my favourite place in all the world is just next to Raiano, the Eremo of San Venanzio, just 20 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car from Raiano. It's a suggestive and peaceful place, if  you feel like being connected to the nature. Youngsters, called "Raianesi", love to spend their summer at San Venanzio, going to take a bath to the cold river of Aterno, when it is so hot, you can see the air vibrate on the asphalt.

For the nature lovers, there are lots of walking paths around the village, and can be done by any level of experience.

If you feel like discovering Italy from a different perspective, do not hesitate to come to Raiano and explore Abruzzo. You will enjoy immemorabile people, food, and places."
