Go direct to our guided walking holidays

We are proud to present our range of carefully prepared and selected guided walking holidays in France. We have assembled a range of walks to suit all abilities and tastes from relatively gentle strolls through vine covered slopes of the Jura and the Beaujolais in France to more challenging mountain walks in the alpine heights of the Vanoise National Park or demanding treks in the High Atlas of Morocco. As well as doing some amazing and inspiring walks, our walking holidays offer an authentic local experience through our carefully selected accommodation, which gives you the opportunity to try delicious traditional foods and wine, and mix with the locals. Don’t worry if you don’t speak a word of the local language, our bilingual guides are there to help you enjoy this rewarding experience.

Our classic treks in Africa are somewhat different in that they use camping whilst on trek as opposed to guest houses. These holidays include going to the summit of Toubkal and Mgoun in the High Atlas in Morocco and visiting the wide open spaces of the Sahara desert.

    Walks

Our guided walking holidays in Europe consist mainly of day circuits. Day circuits allow for a greater degree of flexibility in relation to the weather and will permit us to move location during the walking holiday, experiencing more of the highlights that each region has to offer. They also allow us to cherry-pick the best walking trails. Some guided walking holidays involve multi day treks moving between guest houses. These are mainly in mountainous or alpine regions such as the Queyras and the Vanoise in the French Alps, although we have introduced a guided circuit exploring the medieval villages of the southern Beaujolais. We are able to organise tailor-made walking holidays for many of the best alpine treks. Please contact us to discuss your interests.

    Destinations

Our chosen destinations for our guided walking holidays are for the most part in quiet, secluded regions, away from the main tourist routes and the sites of mass tourism. We seek out unspolit areas that are off the beaten track, where a true local identity and character still exists. They are often just as picturesque as more popular regions, with interesting and beautiful walking and can provide that 'away from it all' experience.

    Walking Leaders

We are committed to informative and supportive leadership. As well as ensuring safe progression, the leader will bring to life the region, through his passion and knowledge. We only use locally based walking leaders.

Our guided walking holidays in France are, for the most part, led by William Armstrong. Our holiday in the Tarn is led by Siân Thomas, a local resident and mountain leader. Our other European and African holidays are led by experienced locally based guides. We ensure that all walking leaders are qualified in first aid and are competent to lead groups through appropriate qualifications or relevant experience. They are also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about your destination.

We work with a network of local guides across France and Europe and are also able to offer guided walks for independent travellers.

We are also able to offer guided day walks for independent travellers who would like a day with an expert to find out more about a particular French region.

    Group Sizes

Group walking holidays are ideal for groups of friends who enjoy walking as well as the more formal walking clubs that wish to oxplore further afield.

Guided walking holidays are generally available for groups of between 4 and 24 people. The type of accommodation used and the price of the holiday will depend on the number in the group. We like to use smaller, more informal guest houses, where possible for our holidays, but this won't be feasible with larger groups.

    Individuals or Small Groups

If you wish to go on one of our guided walking holidays but are travelling on your own or as a couple, then we may still be able to help you with your holiday plans. We can seek to form a group with other people who have contacted us with the same interests, or you may be able to join an existing group who are open to new aditions. Once we have a few people interested in a particular holiday with a specific week in mind we will then advertise the holiday to fill the remaining places available. We will generally not confirm the holiday until the minimum number of 4 people has been reached.

    Tailor-made holidays

All our guided walking holidays are to some extent tailor-made to suit you and your group's requirements. The guided walking holidays are adapted to suit your group's abilities, interest and size.

Whether you're an existing walking group, a small corporate team or just friends looking to do something different or get away from it all, we can create a walking holiday adapted to your needs. Please let us know long enough in advance so that we can accommodate your requirements. Just get in touch and we'll be delighted to help.

    Accommodation

Please visit our dedicated web page which describes how we carefully select our guest houses. Our philosophy is simple; we look for traditional historic properties in beautiful surroundings, where a personal, friendly service is guaranteed and where authentic, local food and drink is on offer. Your hosts are delighted to welcome you into their lives and their homes. They will take great pleasure in looking after you and giving you information and advice about the region and its specialities.

    Holiday experience

Our guided walking holidays are more than just about walking, important as this obviously is. Through our various choices described above (small groups, locally based guides, choice of destination and guest houses) we provide holidays with a unique and more authentic or true experience.
