GR10The GR10 is a wonderful & dramatic 415km long distance trail following the length of the Pyrenees Mountain chain between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. You'll amble through stunning scenery that varies enormously, with flower filled meadows, sparkling lakes, cirques and high summits. You’ll get a taste of many different cultures, from the Basque country in the west through to Catalonia in the East. Each valley you pass through has its own distinct flavour. It is a great way to explore local life and to discover different cultures and traditions as you head through the Pyrenees. Our GR10 trek is split into 8, one week parts which vary in difficulty and character. Overall the trek is strenuous with many long and difficult days. The different walking holidays can be put together to form a longer trek if desired. The first section through the Basque country is easier than the sections which follow as you head into the Bearn and then the higher mountains of the Bearn. Just like the Basque country, the Bearn has a unique culture and identity. On the second leg of the trek you'll disover the canyon of Holzarte and its famous bridge and the beautiful glacial cirque at Lescun. Part 3 enters the Pyrenees National Park and traverses beautiful mountain scenery including the Ossau, Arrens and Estaing valleys with picturesque lakes and high summer pastures surrounded by high peaks. The 4th stage has two parts. The first part of the itinerary takes place in an area called Toy. The word ‘Toy’, formerly Thoys, means child or small and refers to the youthfulness of the villages. You'll walk from Cauterets to Bareges, via the high valley of Luz-Saint-Sauveur and the col de Riou, where there is a splendid panoramic view, visiting villages renowned for the benefits of their thermal waters. In the second part of the 4th leg of the GR10 trek between Gaubie bridge and Bagneres-de-Luchon, the itinerary makes its way through a succession of lakes, mountain passes, at more than 2000m in altitude, and mountain villages. You will cross the Natural Reserve in Neouvielle and its remarkable glacial lakes, before reaching the villages of Saint-Lary-Soulan and Germ, the famous Espingo lake refuge and finally Bagneres-de-Luchon.
