Dorset Jurassic Coastal Path - Lulworth Ranges
Information on the opening times of the Army Ranges at Lulworth and access to the Dorset Coastal path in the UK
High Point Holidays independent walking holiday along the Dorset Jurassic Coastal Path (which forms part of the south west coast path) has a section which follows a permissive route through the Army Ranges near Lulworth Cove. This route is only available when firing is not taking place. The abandoned village of Tyneham which lies within Army land has a similarly restricted access. Normally it is available during school holidays and at weekends. In 2019 this section of the Coast Path is open between (all dates are inclusive)
This information may be updated and so before booking on our walking holiday, if you want to include the section between Lulworth and Swanage or Corfe Castle, it is best to check whether the walking trail will be open by phoning the army 24 hour answering service 01929 404819. If firing is taking place, red flags are flown and the gates are locked. Outside of the holiday periods, when the Lulworth ranges are only open at the weekends, the gates to the walking holiday trails are opened as near to 9am on the Saturday morning as possible and remain open until 8am on the Monday morning. The gate to the village of Tyneham is locked each night at sunset.

The four day walk goes from Lyme Regis to Lulworth, where you can visit the world famous Lulworth Cove. The 6 day and 7 day options which continue from Lulworth to either Swanage or Corfe Castle can only be undertaken when the fifth day of the walking tour coincide with either one of the weekends or holiday periods when the Army range is open.
