Nestled in pretty rolling countryside in the eastern Brionnais, near the Saone Valley, Aux Forets is a small bed and breakfast style accommodation where you’ll enjoy a very comfortable and original stay. This former wine-makers property dates from the 18th century and has retained all of its charm and authenticity, whilst providing an excellent level of accommodation.
Aux Forets has 4 individually decorated rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning and wifi, each with their own appeal and decorated with lots of taste. In addition, there are a number of rooms and spaces where you can choose to relax after your day’s walk. There is a large lounge room which opens out onto a terrace with panoramic view over the garden. Here in the summer you can enjoy your quality breakfast. There is also a library with many original features dating from the 18th century and over 1000 books - some in English. The house also retains the part of the house where the wine was made where you can admire the old press.
The grounds at Aux Forets are as impressive as the house. There's a large flower garden which has been cultivated with passion for 2 generations. Roses, rhododendrons and perennial flowers decorate the lawns, paths and hidden spaces which create a beautiful setting for your stay. There is also a secluded space to relax with a large swimming pool and sun loungers which you can move to the shade of a 100 year-old Ash tree if it gets too warm.
At Aux Forets you’ll be reserved a warm welcome by your lovely hosts. They no longer do meals but are happy to provide transfers to a good quality local restaurant near the Loire Valley.
The Brionnais is a secret region of Burgundy, nestled between the high Beaujolais hills and the mighty Loire Valley. These rolling hills and valleys are made up of a patchwork of fields and you'll pass from beautiful secluded valleys with babbling streams to open ridges with great panoramic views. Like much of southern Burgundy the region was heavily influenced by Cluny Abbey during Medieval times and most villages, such as Iguerande, Anzy le Duc and Semur en Brionnais have beautiful Romanesque churches. Aux Forets is situated near the historic town of Charlieu where you can discover its pretty streets with a mix of stone and wooden frame buildings, and its Benedictine abbey where you can admire its gothic cloisters.
Aux Forets is just one of the lovely guest houses that we use on the self-guided walking holiday in Burgundy, France - Beautiful Brionnais: Secret Hills of Burgundy. Others include the Chateau de Grandvaux, a small guest house located close to the small historic town of La Clayette.
