La Source des Fees guest house, Chardonnay Wine Trails
La Source des Fees is a wonderful guest house situated on a vineyard in the pretty village of Fuissé in southern Burgundy surrounded by Chardonnay wines.
La Source des Feés is a 4 corns (4 star gite de France) rated guest house located in a beautifully renovated 16th century property built from local warm coloured stone. Thierry and Philippe, who speak good English, reserve you a very warm welcome to the vineyard in the Maconnais vineyards of the Burgundy. Here, in the true home of the French Chardonnay wines, they run a vineyard which produces the finest of the Maconnais wines, the Pouilly-Fuissé. The guest house is the last stop on our independent walking holiday, Chardonnay Wine Trail, which traverses the Chardonnay white wine growing region of the southern Burgundy in France. This walking holiday starts in the village of Chardonnay and passes through the historic villages of Brancion, Ozenay, Lugny, Azé, Berzé, Pierreclos and Solutré. The walking trail which traverses through the Chardonnay vineyards, also passes the historic chateaux at Berzé and Pierreclos, summits the remarkable Roche de Solutré and visits a number of caves such as those at Lugny, Azé, Igé and Solutré.
La Source des Fees has three bedrooms and two suites, all very spacious and immaculately decorated and finished by a local architect and designer. Stone and wooden beams are omnipresent in the various guest rooms, furnished by a pleasant mixture of modern and classic furnishings and art work.
On the ground floor there is a large dining room where traditional breakfast and evening meals are served. Large flag stones on the floor, wooden beams, bare stone walls and traditional furniture make this a lovely space to eat. During the summer months, meals are often taken outside in the pretty garden, sheltered and a haven of peace. The garden is a wonderful place to relax after your walking holiday in the French Burgundy. On the first floor there is an elegant lounge to relax in case of poor weather, which includes a piano, a library and selection of games.
The vineyard of the Source des Feés covers 4.5 hectares and consists of Chardonnay grapes for the Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint Véran labels and Gamay grapes for the red Maconnais wines. The grapes are picked by hand for both grape types. Before dinner as guest at this unique Burgundy guest house, you'll be treated to a wine tasting where Philippe will take great pleasure in explaining the different wines and their method of production. The guest house has a boutique where you can purchase their wines plus a selection of fine wines from the neighbouring Burgundy vineyards.
